Cory A. Booker, the mayor of Newark, N.J., told the more than 2,700 WUSTL graduates to focus on being “first class” in character, to never give up and to focus on performing small acts of kindness. Booker spoke at the university’s 152nd Commencement celebration.

Apollo 17 astronaut on campus for week
of events related to lunar exploration

Harrison “Jack” Schmitt, a geologist and Apollo 17 astronaut, will visit WUSTL this week for a round of activities centered on lunar exploration, including: a public seminar today about his geological exploration of the moon’s Taurus-Littrow Valley; a forum with students on the future of human space exploration; and a review meeting for the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Cameras.

Today’s issue marks the last daily Record email of the academic year. Beginning May 29, the Record will be published on Wednesdays through summer.

Sports summer camp registration under way

The Athletic Department offers summer sports camps for kids at all developmental levels — from age 6 through high school. The camps focus on baseball, basketball, football, soccer, tennis and volleyball.

in NSF essay competition

Two WUSTL graduate students are competing in a National Science Foundation essay contest, the Innovation in Graduate Education Challenge. They propose a new course to teach graduate students how to communicate their work to the general public. Vote for their idea online now through May 29.

University College, the adult, evening and continuing education division, is hosting “Walk-in Wednesdays” the last Wednesday of each month for prospective students. Advisers will be on hand for those interested in degree or certificate programs or who simply wish to take classes for personal enrichment.
